Portrait of Milton W. Carothers. Milton Washington Carothers completed both his master's and doctoral degree programs at Columbia University. At FSU, however, he acted Registrar, the first dean of the Graduate School at FSU, Associate Dean of the Faculties, interim FSU president and FSU vice president until his retirement. A professor of Education, FSU's education building bears his name. He and his wife, Julia Stover Carothers, were prominent in Florida State University's affairs for over half a century.
